In order to sort out regulatory questions about Facebook's planned cryptocurrency libra, US lawmakers will now go to Switzerland to discuss the matter.
In mid-June, Facebook announced that they were going to release their own cryptocurrency called libra. Since then, the reactions have been many and harsh, not least from politicians and lawmakers worldwide.
Among other things, US President Donald Trump and the same country’s Congress have sharply criticized the project.
Now comes news that a delegation from the US House of Representatives will visit Switzerland to discuss cryptocurrencies in general and libra in particular with Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) Adrian Lobsiger, Cointelegraph reports.
In Switzerland, the Libra Association is located, an organization consisting of some 20 of the world’s biggest companies and organizations that is supposed to control libra by running nodes on the network.
The US delegation is led by Maxine Waters, chairwoman of the House Financial Services Committee. She has previously requested that libra be halted until all questions regarding the planned cryptocurrency have been answered.
The purpose of the delegation’s visit to Switzerland is to get better clarity on legislative issues regarding libra, Cointelegraph reports.
