Last year, the word “blockchain” was listed as one of the new Swedish words of the year, but this year cryptocurrencies was left out from the list. The closest we get is the word “E-krona”, which is the suggested digital fiat currency that is planned to be launched by the year 2020.
The ambition with the e-krona is to replace cash with a digital alternative, that will be easier for authorities to trace and that gives the people the freedom to store their money directly with the government instead of being dependent on an account with a private bank.
In the list of new Swedish words of 2018, the e-krona is described as “suggested digital central bank currency, which the people will be able to use as a complement to cash”.
Some of the other new Swedish words on the list are tracking pixel, tech-lash and support animal. You find the whole list here.
