During the first three months of the year, cybercrimes linked to cryptocurrencies have increased, according to a new report.
Cybercrimes linked to cryptocurrencies, such as “cryptojacking” and ransomware, have increased. This according to a new report from the American cybersecurity company McAfee, Cointelegraph writes.
Cryptojacking is malicious software, known as “malware”, that hides on computers in order to use the power of the computer to secretly mine cryptocurrencies and thus make money.
Ransomware is malicious software that attacks a computer and, for example, takes files hostage via encryption and then demands a ransom, often in cryptocurrency, to cancel the encryption.
According to the McAfee report, the number of “cryptojacking” cases increased by 29 percent during the first quarter of the year. In addition, the ransomware attacks increased by 118 percent during the same period.
The report also reveals that the company has discovered several new malware for both Microsoft and Apple users, Cointelegraph reports.
