Singapore-based Bitrue, number 53 on Coinmarketcap’s list of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, has been hacked, the exchange announces on Twitter.
Xrp and cardano worth over $5 million were stolen from about 90 users on the crypto exchange.
Exploited weakness in the system
The attack, which the hackers carried out by exploiting a weakness in Bitrue’s risk control system, was detected quickly, and the crypto thieves have now been kicked out off the exchange, Cointelegraph reports.
This is not the first time huge sums of cryptocurrencies are stolen. Earlier this week, Trijo News reported that Europol has arrested six people for stealing large amounts of bitcoin.
