In the photos, which were first published in the Telegram group “Patrons of the moon” and which appear to be adverts from Ebay at the crypto conference Consensus in New York, one can see the texts “Virtual currency. It’s happening on Ebay” and “Digital collectibles. It’s happening on Ebay”.
This suggests that the e-commerce giant could be entering the crypto world, which would be a breakthrough when it comes to reaching large user groups.
During the first quarter of 2019, Ebay reached 180 million active users, according to Statista.com.
“Digital collectibles” is about unique digital collectibles that are located on a blockchain. They became known in 2017 through, among other things, Cryptokitties.
Ebay itself has not issued any official statement regarding the implementation of cryptocurrencies.
More companies seem to be entering the crypto world
In the same Telegram group, videos showing someone paying with cryptocurrencies at the American companies Starbucks and Bed Bath & Beyond have also leaked.
The payments seem to be made using an app from the New York-based startup Flexa, which deals with crypto payments. It is rumored that they will enter into partnerships with some major American companies, including Starbucks, Bed Bath & Beyond and Nike.
