Daily crypto: CEO believes in bitcoin ETF within one year and cryptokitty sold for $172,000

Lately, there have been many discussions regarding bitcoin ETFs, exchange traded funds that track the price of bitcoin. Now, there are many people who wonder when U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will approve a bitcoin ETF.

Bill Barhydt, CEO of the crypto start-up Abra, says that a bitcoin ETF will be available within one year. He believes that the first bitcoin ETF will come from an established and credible financial institution. He also says that several of the ETF proposals that SEC did not approve, in part was because they did not come from such financial institutions.

Bill Barhydt is even prepared to make a bet that there will be a bitcoin ETF within one year. He believes that the demand for a bitcoin ETF is simply too large for SEC to ignore, CNBC reports.

Cryptokitty sold for $172,000

Cryptokitties is according to their website a blockchain based game where you can buy and sell digital pets. Then you can feed and take care of your digital pets on their platform.

Now somebody has paid 600 ether, equivalent of around $172 000, for one of these digital pets, reports the technology site Cnet.

The purchase has created speculations on the web forum Reddit, that the transaction may involve money laundering.

Market is tanking

There has been a decline in the prices of all the major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin (-2.62%) has lost value in the last 24 hours but has still done much better in price than the other major cryptocurrencies like ethereum (-9,83%) and xrp (-9,53%).

Among the top 100 cryptocurrencies bitcoin diamond (+250,78%) was in the top after Binance, a major crypto exchange, said that they will list the cryptocurrency on their exchange. Another winner was namecoin (+32,38%).

On the losing side, we find yesterday’s biggest winners bitcoindark (–18,84%) and holo (–23.57%).
