ANNONS

The crypto exchange Bitmex, which is registered in the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean, announced on Friday that they had accidentally leaked their users’ email addresses.

The mistake allegedly happened because they forgot to use the “blind carbon copy” (abbreviated bcc) e-mail function in a mass mailing, Coindesk reports.

22,000 daily users

Exactly how many users are affected is still unclear, but according to data published on Twitter from data analytics company Skew, Bitmex has around 22,000 daily users.

In a statement, Bitmex writes that they are aware of the leak.

“Our team have acted immediately to contain the issue and we are taking steps to understand the extent of the impact. Rest assured that we are doing everything we can to identify the root cause of the fault and we will be in touch with any users affected by the issue”, Bitmex writes, while also apologizing for what happened, on their blog.

The leak can pose a security risk to users on the crypto exchange, so it may be a good idea to update your security settings if you are a Bitmex customer, Coindesk writes.
