Europol, together with Dutch and British police, has arrested six people for stealing over $27 million in cryptocurrencies, according to a press release released by Europol yesterday.
The thieves allegedly used the technique “typo squatting” to commit the theft. This means that you set up a faked website that has a similar name as an established one. Then the victim is tricked into filling in their user data.
4,000 people affected
4,000 owners of primarily bitcoin were hit by the thieves, who were based in the UK and the Netherlands, Cointelegraph reports.
