From having been traded around $11,398 at 11.00 am on Monday (CEST), the bitcoin price soared sharply in just ten minutes – and peaked at $11,916, according to numbers from Bitstamp.
This is an increase of over $500, which is about four and a half percent.
Over $210 billion
However, the price dropped slightly after the rally and a bitcoin is currently trading at about $11,868.
Bitcoin’s total market cap is currently over $210 billion. The world’s biggest cryptocurrency thus represents 62.7 percent of the total market cap of all cryptocurrencies, according to Coinmarketcap.
