By the end of last year, the U.S. stock exchanges CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) and the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) launched trading in so-called bitcoin futures contracts.
A futures contract is an agreement to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined future date at a predetermined price. This allowed more people and professional investors to expose themselves to the bitcoin price without actually having to own real bitcoin.
In May, CME further broadened its portfolio, announcing that they intend to commence trading in ethereum in what they call “CME CF ether-dollar reference price and real-time index”, a solution similar to the bitcoin and ethereum certificates available for trading on the Stockholm stock exchange.
Now, CBOE Global Markets, the owner of CBOE, is supposedly on their way to also launch ethereum futures contracts, Cointelegraph reports, referring to Business Insider. According to the source, the plan is to launch the futures contracts before the end of the year.
Bitcoin over $7,000 again
The crypto markets have not moved much in the last 24 hours.
Ethereum (–1,26%), xrp (–1,44%) and bitcoin cash (–1,14%) have all lost in value. Bitcoin (–0,02%) went down yesterday, but recovered to over $7,000 during Friday morning.
Eos (+2,94%) is the only cryptocurrency among the biggest ones that have soared in value during the last 24 hours.
The cryptocurrencies on top 100 that have performed the best during the last 24 hours were dogecoin (+24,52%) and waltonchain (+21,76%), and the ones that performed the worst were noah coin (–24,08%) och moac (–7,42%).
