Late on Friday night (CEST), the bitcoin price took off. From having been traded around $8,200 earlier in the day, the price soared several hundred dollars in a short time – and topped out at $8,780 during Saturday morning, according to numbers from Bitstamp.
This is an increase of seven percent and the highest price since the beginning of June.
On its way to $9,000?
Since the peak level, however, the price has dropped slightly and a bitcoin is currently trading at around $8,650.
Now many wonder if the bitcoin price can continue to $9,000 over the weekend.
Bitcoin’s total market cap is currently $154 billion. The world’s biggest cryptocurrency also currently represents 56.5 percent of the total market cap of all cryptocurrencies, according to Coinmarketcap.
