Democrat Eric Swalwell is running for president in the US election in 2020. Now, he starts accepting donations in cryptocurrencies. But he is not the first Democrat to do so.
Campaigning ahead of the US presidential election in 2020 has already begun. This time, there are many Democrats running and fighting for attention. In order to stand out, the candidates must, therefore, try different ways to reach out with their messages.
One of those trying to make a name for himself is the 38-year-old Democrat Eric Swalwell. He has now decided to start accepting donations – in cryptocurrencies, Yahoo Finance reports.
“Blockchain can change the world – if we let it”, says Swalwell in a video on his donation site, and then continues:
“Government has to keep up with the times, and the times have changed. We must study, but ultimately embrace, these new frontiers.
In order to receive donations in cryptocurrencies, Eric Swalwell and his campaign use the blockchain payment firm The White Company.
The cryptocurrencies that people now can donate to him are bitcoin, bitcoin cash, bitcoin SV, ethereum, stellar lumens and their own “stablecoin” WSD that runs on the stellar network.
However, Swalwell is not the first presidential candidate to accept crypto donations. For almost a year, Democrat Andrew Yang has done the same.
Yang has also said that he wants a clear regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies in the United States, something that many in the crypto community have appreciated, Yahoo Finance reports.
