In May this year, 306 bitcoin ATMs were installed worldwide. This corresponds to a net growth of 228, which is the largest monthly increase in one year, according to data from Coinatmradar that Bitcoinist reports about.
Now there are over 4,900 bitcoin ATMs in a total of 77 countries worldwide. Most ATMs are in the US and that was also where the increase in May was greatest, followed by the UK and Hungary.
Bitcoin up 60 percent
The large increase in bitcoin ATMs takes place during the same month as the exchange rate for the world’s biggest cryptocurrency had the strongest development so far this year. In May, the bitcoin price increased by about 60 percent.
More bitcoin ATMs, as much as 69.6 percent, now also offer purchases of cryptocurrencies other than bitcoin, according to Coinatmradar.
In addition to bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrencies in the machines are ethereum, litecoin and bitcoin cash, Bitcoinist reports.
