During Wednesday, the bitcoin price dropped almost 500 dollars in just one hour. At lunchtime, the price fell from about $7,380 to about $6,892, according to the crypto exchange Bitstamp.
At the time of writing, the price has recovered slightly and is currently traded at just below 7,000 dollars.
What caused the decline is currently unclear.
